Niger Delta Militants Rise Again, Send Strong messages to Tinubu

The Niger Delta Development Force, a militia organization based in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, has issued a stern ultimatum regarding the shutdown of oil operations if Bola Ahmed Tinubu  fails to intervene in the actions of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister.

The group accuses Wike of undermining the authority of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statement released on Sunday, spokesperson Justin Alabraba voiced the group’s discontent with what they claim is Wike’s maneuvering to impede local government funding in Rivers State, potentially starting as soon as today.

The statement warned, “Should any judge in Abuja deliver a ruling that financially cripples the local governments in Rivers, preventing them from effectively serving their communities, we will respond decisively. We are prepared to swiftly shut down major oil facilities across the Niger Delta. If President Tinubu permits Wike to meddle in the local governance of Rivers, we will escalate our actions to disrupt governance on a national scale. Wike must cease his interference with Fubara’s administration.”

The group articulated their frustrations over what they perceive as Wike’s federal overreach being employed to intimidate the state governor. They stated, “For months, Wike has belittled and harassed Governor Fubara. We will no longer tolerate this behavior. Any further attempts to undermine Fubara will trigger a response that involves the destruction of oil infrastructure. President Tinubu’s lack of action signifies complicity. Rivers State belongs to its residents, not to Wike, who appears intent on destabilizing his successor.”

The militia concluded with a severe warning: “If any unfavorable judgment is handed down against Rivers, there will be no turning back. We are committed to continually targeting oil installations. This is not merely a threat; it is a pledge. We have reached our limit; Wike and Tinubu can no longer ignore our resolve.”
