Two Worlds – Episode 3

I am fully dressed for my first date with the Senator’s daughter Amanda. Earlier that day I had gone to the akara woman with the hope of seeing Amara but had to wait for about an hour without seeing her. Her mom said she really works so hard and wouldn’t return until she sells everything. I, out of my generosity bought almost everyone I saw around there akara and this woman was so happy because she ended up selling all her akara and was ready to leave for the day with the intention of returning to continue that night.

I left without seeing Amara. But I was glad I did help her mom sell all her akara. Amanda had called earlier to ask that we had dinner in a very expensive restaurant that night by 7pm. My dad and mom were aware and were very happy because they loved her so much. My sisters brought me the latest designer suits. It was only my cousin sister that would not smile because she didn’t really like Amanda. In her opinion she is a very flamboyant and authoritative person.

Well I don’t judge people based on someone else’s statement. I was already dressed and then drove in my new car dad had bought for me. I got there and she was already waiting… “you don’t keep a lady waiting on the first date” she said in a loud voice that showed she was already angry…but it’s only 2mins past 7pm. I apologized and she responded “pls keep it to yourself, you men are all the same”… We barely had a meaningful discussion.

She had a tight face all through that night and was always answering her phone which she did more than 13 times in less than 2hrs. My mind wondered away and it found it’s way to where Amara was. What will she be doing now? What will she eat for dinner? Amanda showed me the bill for that night and I had to pay “250k” for just dinner. She left without a hug and said “next time don’t ever keep a queen waiting”…As soon as she left I hurriedly dashed out to go see the akara woman because it was still past 9pm and I had hoped they will still be selling.

I stopped at a place to buy chicken and rice for them. On getting there lo and behold it was Amara who was frying and selling the akara with her younger brother. I was so happy as if I’ve seen an angel. I came down and walked so fast towards them as if running after a thief.

On seeing me she stood up and hurriedly got a nylon to serve me. I smiled and said “I don’t want to buy Akara this night okay”… She looked so stressed out for a girl of her age and I decided to sit beside her to help her out. She barely said a word and I noticed she was very shy. So I engaged her younger brother in a discussion about his education and found out that he didn’t attend any school. I was so touched.

As it got darker the number of customers increased and at this point I got up to assist in selling to the customers. She tried to stop me but I insisted and I found it so enjoyable. At intervals our eyes would meet and she would quickly look away. Then her phone rang. It was a Nokia touch light phone held together by a rubber band so as not to fall apart.

The person at the other end of the phone was her mom and from the way the conversation went she had asked them to round up their sales and return home because it was getting late and she wasn’t there with them. It was past 10pm. She started parking up for the night and I helped out too. Soon we were done with the parking and it was time to go home. But I wasn’t going to leave them like that and so I offered to drive them home. She refused saying “sir please we can’t follow you in your car.

We will take a Keke napep (tricycle) home pls. Don’t be offended okay”… I didn’t insist at first and then decided to wait along with them to see how they will find a Keke home. Minutes passed and it wasn’t forthcoming. It was already getting very late and her mom then called again. She told her mom about my offer to bring them home and her mom agreed to it. With all joy and smiles i made sure they had all their cooking utensils in the boot of my car and I made sure they were comfortable.

At that point I brought out the chicken and rice I had bought for her and handed it over to her. She rejected at first and then decided not to take any part of it until she got home. We drove for few minutes and she directed me till we reached her house. Her mom was already seated outside with her two younger siblings. She was so happy to see me and although she was very worried that I was outside by that time of the day she offered me dinner.

They had eaten akara and pap for dinner. Amara showed the chicken and rice to her mom and she thanked me so much while singing praises on my behalf. I left and Amara walked me up to the car alongside her younger brother. I offered her some money but she refused it. I said my goodbyes and left for my house. It was already past 11pm and I drove as fast as possible.

On getting home I met everyone scared because it was so late and they even called Amanda but she said she left me by 9pm. I apologized for keeping late nights and without further explanations I ran upstairs to my room to have a good night sleep. I kept thinking of Amara. I made up my mind to get her a gift the next morning. I was determined to prove my love for her.

I felt my heart beating for her and there was this special thing I felt for her that I Couldn’t explain. But if you must know I was already in love with the poor Girl, Amara. I then decided to check my phone just before going to bed and I saw 15 missed calls from Amanda and an accompanying message which says “I’m so sorry for the way I behaved this night. I don’t know what came over me. I love you and I’m sorry I couldn’t say it to you. I’ll surely make it up to you. Pls call me when you get home”…
I switched my phone off and off I journeyed to the dream land…
