Nigeria as a Federation celebrates her 60th independence anniversary amidst several vicissitudes and challenges facing the citizens of the country.
President Buhari in his Independence Anniversary Speech (Full Text) enumerated many things including his achievements but one thing stood out which should ordinarily make any Nigerian who lives in Nigeria irk.
In his exculpatory words trying to exonerate himself from blames as a result of the recent electricity tariff increase and petrol ⛽ pump price increments, he goofed by measuring Nigeria with other developed nations such as Saudi Arabia.
He took his time to enumerate other neighboring African nations who are also Oil producing nations whose petrol pump prices are higher than Nigerias.
However, Nigerians are here to remind him that his basis of comparisons are flawed considering that his administration hasn’t even successfully implemented the common minimum wage of 30,000 naira to the civil servants. His speech writers obviously don’t know the standard of living of those nations he enumerated.
Shamefully enough, the minimum wage of Saudi Arabia is 305,000 naira whilst Nigeria is 30,000 (on paper) and he is comparing his impoverished citizens with Saudi Arabia.
Recall, the presidency told Nigerians that the Fuel subsidy was already removed completely in 2016 before hiking the fuel pump price as at then… It means they lied to Nigerians and probably still lying.
