About four banks in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, North-Central Nigeria including Zenith Bank, Stanbic IBTC, First Bank as well as UBA have reportedly been robbed by heavily armed gunmen.
Although information about the said attack is still sketchy, early reports indicate that the armed robbers attacked the banks without any resistance.
This happened after they successfully robbed Zenith Bank and then moved to the other three banks. A banker from one of the affected banks confirmed the reports saying the situation is horrible.
The Otukpo Divisional Police Officer, DPO was hit by bullets and taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

Another source who also did not want to be named said an unspecified number of residents were reportedly killed in the attack when the robbers invaded several banks in Otukpo at about 3pm on Friday, shooting sporadically. “Armed robbers have taken over everywhere in Otukpo. They are just shooting whoever they see. Currently, they are robbing Zenith Bank and they have been here for more than three hours”, he said.
At at the time of this report, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene said she was yet to be briefed on the unfolding incident.
