“Greed is one of the worst of the vices as keeping quiet in the presence of evil practices could be worst”.
Most times i have wondered why most Nigerians are their own problems and till date, my rhetoric question has remained un-answered.
The popular and probably the only adopted viable source to drinking water in Nigeria known as “Pure water” (sachet water) is now a “gold mine” especially in Anambra state where a bag goes for as high as 250 naira and a single sachet goes for 20 naira.
Querying further, i realized it was a deliberate effort by the dealers not only to extort the poor Anambra consumers but to push them back to other alternative sources of getting portable drinking water which could be a serious threat to their health.
“Pure water” producers, under the Association of Table Water Producers Association of Nigeria, announced they have imposed an increase due to rising production costs.
2 bags of “pure water” is now 500 naira in the most parts of Anambra state and yet no one talks?
This is how everything in Nigeria works. They intentionally hike a particular product, wait for people to react and in the absence of any possible reaction, the hiked price sticks.
Why is the price in Anambra state different with that of lagos state for an example?
Do we have functional consumer protection Council (CPC) in Anambra state? Why are people not talking about this evil act?
A popular Igbo adage says, “alụ gbaa afọ, ọ bulu omenala”, (if a taboo turns a year unabated, it becomes a tradition)! I refuse to allow this taboo turn to a tradition in Anambra state.
Maybe, because it’s not petrol or diesel which often garner much attention, this wouldn’t be noticed.
Water is one of the most essential commodity for humans and it’s part of the government’s duty to provide this for the citizens. However, since they have for over two decades stopped looking towards the side of water boards….. Everyone now depends on these so-called “pure water” as the only and major source of drinking water supply.
Why hiking it?
In lagos state and most of other parts of the country, same bag of “pure water” is sold for N120 naira – N150 naira at a maximum unit price from the retail stores and could be far cheaper if bought from the dealers.
In Awka, Anambra state, it’s a different ball game as even the dealers sell to end users for N250 naira…
Why would this be so?
What could be the excuse for this evil practice?…. Could it be that they have started importing *water into Anambra state*..?
Of course, they cited high cost of production. How could that be so for a 100 percent price increase?
I thereby call for a stop to this rubbish which started since December, 2021 and about to become permanent.
Who and who should we meet as to engage these greedy “pure water” dealers whose union are enjoying the evil money 💵 extortion currently.
Governor Willie Obiano, can you do something or do we wait till March for Charlie Nwa Mgbafor to ascend?
Whichever way, i need this post to be given maximum attention and adequate reach out so that something would be done about it urgently.
Enough is Enough…….!!!!
Call me a volunteer who needs Anambra purged of “ndị fonfoju akpa”.
