Peter Obi Named ‘Most Impactful Politician’ of Fourth Republic

Peter Obi , former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, was honored with the ‘Most Impactful Politician of the Fourth Republic (1999 to 2023)’ award by Champion Newspaper. The award was presented at the Champion Annual Awards held on Saturday night in Lagos.

Champion Newspaper celebrated Mr. Obi for his significant contributions to public policy, good governance, international business, modern leadership, and human capital development. The media outlet described him as a leader recognized for his dedication to improving society.

The managing director of Champion Newspaper, Nwaduito Iheakanwa, highlighted the importance of honoring individuals who have positively influenced Nigeria. She emphasized that recognizing such individuals and institutions is crucial for the nation’s progress. “For Nigeria to get better and bigger, we will need more of this calibre of people and institutions that we set out to honour this evening because they constitute an integral part of the best,” she said.

Iheakanwa also called on Nigerians to prioritize good governance over political distractions. “My simple message to us is that Nigerians should assiduously face issues of good governance and set aside politics and political meandering. For us, change comes from constructive thoughts and sound actions.”

NDLEA chairman Buba Marwa, who chaired the event, praised the awardees for their dedication and hard work. He stated that awards like these serve to encourage citizens to excel in their fields and to show that hard work is recognized and rewarded. “The purpose of awards, such as these, is to encourage the citizens to do even more in their areas of expertise and callings and also let Nigerians and the entire world know that if you work hard enough, there is a reward for it,” Marwa said.

Other notable awardees included the governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, who received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, and Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who was honored with the ‘2023 Excellence in Service Award’.

Peter Obi’s award highlights his long-standing commitment to improving governance and public service in Nigeria. His tenure as governor of Anambra State is remembered for significant strides in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. His leadership style, marked by transparency and accountability, has earned him widespread admiration and respect.
