The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has revealed a troubling statistic for Kano state, out of over 3.4 million children under five, 2 million equivalent to 56.9% are suffering from stunting due to malnutrition.
This was disclosed by Rahama Rihood Mohammed, UNICEF Chief of Field Office in Kano, during the launch of the 2024 First Round of Maternal Neonatal Child Health (MNCH) Week at Ungwa Uku Primary Healthcare Centre in Tarauni Local Government Area.
Kano, with a projected population of around 17 million, faces significant challenges in child health, as more than half of its under-five population is affected by stunting. This stark figure highlights the critical need for improved nutritional support and health interventions in the state.
