Olumide Akpata, former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has won the Labour Party (LP) primary election for the Edo governorship election.
Akpata scored 316 votes to beat other aspirants in the poll.
The Edo governorship election is billed to be held on September 21.
Ahead of the primary, the former NBA president had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over fear that his party may hand-pick the flagbearer.

Akpata, in a letter dated February 18 and addressed to Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of INEC, alleged that there is a plot to handpick a candidate for the election by the leadership of the party.
He said his attempts to get the leadership of the party to see reason and provide accountability were not successful.
The LP in its reaction on Tuesday, said the party was committed to conducting a credible primary election and assured that it would provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
