Kathmandu Airport Plane Crash Leaves Many Feared Dead

 

An airport official has reportedly confirmed that the aircraft was a Bangladeshi passenger plane which “became unstable” while descending into the airport. There have been reports that the plane was travelling from Dhaka. Tourism Ministry Joint Secretary Suresh Acharya said 17 injured passengers have been rescued, reports the Kathmandu Post.

The aircraft is said to have caught fire after skidding off the runway and crashing into a football field, according to an airport spokesperson. It was not immediately known how many passengers were on board the plane. “We are trying to bring the fire under control. Details are awaited,” airport spokesman Birendra Prasad Shrestha said. Kathmandu Post reported there are suspected casualties after the crash.
