Zimbabwe was hit with a drought that caused serious famine and hunger in the land, and it was at this point that he decided to cross the border into South Africa.
He was only 18 when he illegally got to South Africa without a passport, he was caught, put in a cell and was deported back to Zimbabwe.
He was further determined to get back to South Africa, and few hours later, he returned to South Africa border but this time instead of the police, he met criminals robbing illegal immigrants with big machetes.
They held the machete to his neck and he fainted out of shock, the criminals left him and chased after the other immigrants.
When he woke up, he wanted to go report himself to the police so they would send him back instead of face these criminals, but a friend encouraged him and together they entered South Africa.
In South Africa, he lived on the streets, giving out fliers for R20 rand a day so he could buy a drink and bread to eat.
