“Subsidy Is Gone!” ballooned to N9 trillion in 2 years. A case of Yahoo Yahoo, or mere dishonesty?
“Subsidy Is Gone!”
Then the denials started! They even said he was courageous. But Nigerians were paying more for a highly subsidized petrol.
Since Nigeria still pays subsidy, why is fuel so expensive? What should be the consequences for lying or cheating Nigerians?
Foreign investors & Bretton Woods Institutions were fooled, the IMF most especially. In one of their reports, they praised Asiwaju for removing petrol subsidy.
Subsidy is gone! but subsidy payments continued. It was one hell of announcement that threw Nigerians into unimaginable hardships. Many japa’d, others stayed to count their losses.
Foreign brands weren’t left out. I am angry, because GSK, P&G, Sanofi, Equinor, PZ Cussons & Kimberly-Clark left.
Because of one man’s impulsive & dishonest behavior, my darling Nigeria is now in ruin. This is inexcusable, it is unforgivable. His kitchen cabinet were shocked. Some of them told Nigerians that he veered completely off the script with that announcement.
Subsidy is gone! wasn’t part of his inaugural speech. But Asiwaju na Showman na, he wanted to impress his fans; so he made an announcement he had little or no understanding of its implications.
At some point, El-Rufai said there is subsidy. But Bola’s media aides & Tinubunomists said it’s a lie.
Las las, Wale Edun has confessed that indeed, they paid a whopping N3.6 trillion in 2023, & they will pay a massive N5.4 trillion in petrol subsidies this year.
It is now they want to rollout an “Economic Stabilization Plan.” It is now they want to begin the implementation of those reforms that ought to have been in place since June 2023.

That Wale Edun still has job, is regrettable. Between Wale & economist fresh out of school? I don’t know who’s better! They put the cart before the horse. After applying the wrong calibrations, they now figured that they got it completely wrong!
Back then, they said that no other presido was bold enough to bite the bullet. Then they went on & on with the braggadocio, parroting their ugly mouths that Asiwaju has removed subsidy. But we knew it was all lies.

In fact, their famous line was that “states now share more FAAC revenues since the removal of subsidy.” I can go on & on, but there is no point over-flogging a dead horse. Nigerians know the full story. But must they lie?
So Asiwaju & his aides cannot just open their mouths & tell Nigerians the truth for once? Must everything be anchored on lies & Propaganda? Nigerians don’t deserve to know the truth?
But Nigerians are the easiest people to “rule” on this planet. People just want the basics, & may be malaria drugs. Then jollof rice & data for online cruise. Nigerians are not difficult to govern (if you know what I mean).
Yet, the people in power can’t help themselves with complicating the issues. Now he has told foreign investors on his trips abroad that “subsidy was gone.” They’ll wake up & realize they were lied to.
This is going to be a big scandal by the time Bloomberg catches the news. Remove the Dangote Refinery, then Nigeria will be in trouble; completely exposed. Those in power take too much for granted.
Again, we sang “open the borders, & allow food importation. Remove taxes on food to crash food prices.”
Economists like Paul Alaje & Kalu Aja were on this crusade since June 2023. It was only yesterday that it occurred to the finance minister that this must be implemented.
One year gone, they still have no Economic Plan. They still talk Draft Documents, not Plan. Bayo Onanuga is even saying that the Media shouldn’t discuss Wale Edun’s “Economic Stabilization Plan,” just yet, because it hasn’t been adopted. So the merry-go-round will continue.
They are yet to meet their 1.8 mbp oil output. You produce 1.2 mbp currently. Nigeria won’t meet its budget target. They will have to borrow more to finance the Deficit Budget. I don’t see how they will meet this target & still tackle inflation.
Nigeria is servicing its humongous debt with almost 90% of its revenues. This was why we chose a prudent man at the poll.
Someone that won’t lie to Nigerians. The man who would have blocked all the leakages, & implemented austerity measures from day one.
Well, it’s better late than never. Let us hope that they will import food on a massive scale, & Customs will comply with the “No taxes on food Imports for a period of 6 months.”
Governance shouldn’t be a rocket science all the time. Listen to voices like ours, & you will always get it right. Not all of us want you to fail.
Nigeria is the only country we have….
