Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been conferred with a chieftaincy title in her hometown in Abba, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State.
Chimamanda, the award winning writer had severally rejected National honors from the current Nigerian government but rather chose to receive a chieftaincy title in her home town, Abba in Anambra state. Not minding that she’s well exposed to western culture and influence, she has never stopped believing in African culture and practicing it to the fullest. Starting from her name which she never added any English name but pure African names without any abbreviations. “oyibo must learn how to pronounce Igbo names” by force.
Her new chieftaincy title is ‘Odeluwa 1’ of Abba (writer of the world).
She was very elated and excited when she saw Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour party. She greeted him with her chieftaincy hand fan, hitting triple backhand greeting only reserved for Titled people.
