Donald Trump officially nominated as Republican Party’s presidential pick for November’s election. Senator JD Vance of Ohio has been chosen by Trump to be his running mate.
The head of the US Secret Service has expressed confidence in the plan to secure the Republican National Convention (RNC) that starts on Monday following an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
The former US president is in Milwaukee for the RNC. His campaign is expected to announce his vice-presidential pick later on Monday, before he receives the party’s formal nomination for the 2024 presidential race later this week.
Following the shooting at a Pennsylvania rally, Trump says he is rewriting “an extremely tough speech” about President Joe Biden’s “horrible administration” he had prepared for the RNC, hoping to unite the country.

The motive behind the Pennsylvania rally shooting – suspected to have been carried out by Thomas Matthew Crooks – is still being investigated, according to the FBI.
Biden campaign slams Vance will ‘bend over backwards for extreme MAGA agenda’
The US president’s re-election campaign has hit out against Trump’s vice presidential nominee, saying Vance will “enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people”.
“Billions and corporations are literally rooting for JD Vance: they know he and Trupm will cut their taxes and send prices skyrocketing for everyone else,” the campaign continued in a statement shared on X.
It added that Americans’ choice in November is between “two starkly contrasting visions”.

The Biden camp is focused on “uniting the country”, it said, while the Trump-Vance ticket is promoting a “harmful agenda” that will “take away Americans’ rights”.
