Ama regained consciousness shortly afterwards but was still very weak, she was immediately given medical attention and monitoring till she was stable. Deji was granted full custody of their son. He promised Ama that he would do his best to make sure he visited the UK with their son every year and he would bring him to see her as often as possible during each visit.
Never in Ama’s wildest imaginations did she ever think that her desperation to relocate would eventually land her behind bars, she had once felt like the “trenches” which was what she usually called Nigeria was holding her back and she needed relocation to break free but there she was in her paradise with her freedom taken away from her. She flashed back to the comfortable lifestyle she had back home which she had been so desperate to give up because she was looking for greener pastures, without realising that the grass would only be as green as you water it, she would have given up anything to go back to the trenches and have her loving husband and family back but it was too late, she now had a new life, a new reality which she had to accept.
Deji, Jordanna and their son moved back to Nigeria. Although he had loved Ama and wished things had turned out differently, he had come to the realisation that she no longer belonged in his future, he would always love and respect her as the mother of his son but nothing more. He was ready to move on and start a new chapter in his life but he was not in a hurry, he decided that he was going to take things slowly. Deep down he was scared of making another mistake in the choice of a spouse, never in his life had he ever imagined that he would one day have to walk down the aisle a second time, the thought of it alone brought tears to his eyes.
He had suffered the trauma of growing up in a broken home and had vowed that his children would never grow up in a broken home. He had done everything to please Ama just so he would keep this vow, but he learnt the hard way that a successful marriage and happy home is a product of two intentional people willing to work hard towards making their marriage work, one person’s effort is never enough to make a successful marriage.

Michael had been in the hospital for almost a month, he had experienced a surgical wound infection that delayed his healing process and prolonged his hospital stay. A keloid scar had developed at the site of his surgical wound. A keloid scar is a raised scar that appears on the skin after a wound has healed. It can happen after any injury, for example after a cut injury, burn injury, surgical wound or even acne. The scar usually increases in size over time and eventually gets bigger than the original wound. It usually appears in people who have excess collagen in their skin. Keloid scars may be itchy or painful while they are growing but these symptoms usually stop once the scar stops growing. There are treatments to help improve the appearance of a keloid scar, but they cannot be totally eliminated. Such treatments include steroid creams or injections, cryotherapy and laser therapy.
Throughout his time in the hospital, Michael had been handcuffed to the bed or followed by a police officer who stayed right outside the door when he needed to use the washroom or have his bath.
He was scheduled to be discharged in 2 days if he was found to be medically fit after a final medical review, but his discharge would mean that he would be taken to jail and he wasn’t prepared for that, he had not come so far just to end up in jail, “I will do everything I can to escape going to jail or die trying,” he said to himself as he carefully planned his escape.
The next morning, a day before his discharge, he woke up early to take his bath as usual, he was escorted by a policeman who took off his hand cuffs to allow him bath. When he entered the bathroom, he turned on the shower but did not step inside the bathtub, instead he took the cup for rinsing his mouth, filled it halfway with steaming hot water then added a surplus amount of shower gel and toothpaste to it to give it a peppery sting. He usually spent about 10 to 15 minutes in the shower and the policemen who took turns to watch him were already used to this routine, they usually stayed by the door for the duration of time he spent in the bathroom. He had planned that he would leave the shower on so that the policeman would not suspect that he was coming out and immediately throw the soapy-toothpaste-in-hot water concoction that he had made at the police officer’s face, so that the officer would be caught off guard, buying him some more time to make his escape.

“It’s now or never” he whispered to himself as he swung the door open, throwing the solution right in the face of the policeman and running past him. The solution stung the officer’s eyes so badly that he had to keep his eyes shut for a few seconds as he shouted to alert people. “He’s getting away, stop him” he shouted while he fought to open his eyes, he rushed into the bathroom to quickly wash his eyes.
By this time Michael had run past the hallway and was close to the nurses station, there was only one nurse sitting there using the computer, he immediately crept on all fours and crawled past her, all the way to the elevator at the end of the hall, he was about to use the elevator but thought twice about it and decided to run down the staircase instead, even though his ward was on the 7th floor. The policeman after managing to wash the solution out of his eyes immediately called for backup, “the criminal in ward 7D just escaped, I need back up NOW” he ordered, running out of the ward to alert the nurses, “the criminal just escaped,” he said, “did you see him pass by?” He asked, “no i did not” the nurse replied looking horrified, “call security and inform them to lock all exits, police backup will be here any moment” he said, “ok” the nurse replied trembling.
Michael had finally made it to the ground floor panting and out of breath, he spotted an exit a few metres away but noticed two security guards blocking the doorway and refusing people exit, “$hit” he muttered under his breath, “think, Michael, think” he whispered, hitting his forehead.
Almost immediately, he spotted the fire exit door just beside the staircase, “yes, I will go through this door, he said running towards the door and pushing it open, “to his relief, the door was open” he was just about to go through when immediately, the fire alarm went off very loudly ringing round the hospital, alerting everyone of a fire somewhere in the hospital. “No, no, no, this is not happening” Michael thought as he ran out the door finding himself at the back of the building in a fenced area, he was hit by a sudden wave of cold air, the weather was freezing cold but he had nothing to protect him from the cold except for the patient gown he was wearing which was made of very light cotton material.
He ignored the temperature outside and continued to run as fast as his legs could carry him, he kept running till he found himself in front of the building which was already surrounded by police cars. “What do I do now?” He thought stepping back to hide behind a huge waste bin, he had counted not less than 10 police cars surrounding the building. “If I go back in, I will definitely get caught but if I run, I may be lucky not to get caught” he reasoned. He decided to take his chances, he came out of hiding and continued to run, he was immediately spotted by two policemen who chased after him pointing their guns at him, one of them threatened to shoot but he did not stop running, he didn’t know where he was going but he kept running, he was so desperate to escape from the policemen that he did not see a car coming at full speed, in a split second, he felt a huge impact from his side and found himself flying up in the air. He landed on the roof of the car and rolled down to the ground lying in his own blood.
