Nigerians cast aspersion on INEC ahead of General Elections (video)

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has come under serious scrutiny as some of their recent activities seem to be casting aspersions on their initial stance on offering a credible election to Nigerians come 2023.

INEC, who has succeeded in carrying out  credible elections in Anambra Ekiti and Osun elections respectively seem to be deviating recently and Nigerians need to be careful.

Recently, some INEC RECs retired and Buhari had to nominate new Replacements waiting for Senate’s confirmation upon resumption which contravenes the new electoral law. In the new electoral law, Buhari has no right to exclusively do so.

It’s also alleged that 5 out of the nominees are current card carrying members of the APC. The numbers could be more. How on earth should that happen?

Nigerians should resist this by all means. All the RECs must be neutral to further instill confidence to Nigerian voters.

Below are what Oby Ezekwesili tweeted.

The lack of retrospection and introspection by Nigeria’s political class are indicative of how totally detached they are from the country and people. One was recently stammering through a speech on “glass half-full abi half-empty.” Someone said in consternation, “wey de glass?”😊

The constitutional power of politicians in Executive (President) and Legislature (@nassnigeria ) to appoint&confirm @inecnigeria Chairman and Commissioners without Citizens’ participation is one of the things that must be changed in a New Constitution. It corrupts our Politics.✍🏾

As for those blatant partisan appointments recently made by President @MBuhari into @inecnigeria in breach of its constitutional mandate as an Independent Electoral Body, Citizens must collectively prepare to act as a countervailing force in the places where they are deployed.✍🏾

My grouse with @inecnigeria is the incomprehensible redeployment of a competent Director of ICT whose team have recorded a string of credible elections in recent times. It makes absolutely no sense to change a “winning team” except of course there is something more to this.✍🏾

The incredible difference that competent integration of Technology has brought to our electoral process makes one nervous about the redeployment of @inecnigeria ‘s Team that achieved so much. How then can reward for work well done be redeployment in an election year?Intriguing!✍🏾
