FIFA Sanctions Nigeria Over World Cup Fracas In Abuja

World soccer ruling body, FIFA, has imposed a 150,000 Swiss Franc fine on Nigeria following the unruly behaviour of fans at the end of the second leg Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off between the Super Eagles and Black Stars of Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on March 29.

The match which ended in a 1-all draw sealed Ghana’s qualification to the World Cup later this year. Alongside the fine, the Country will play one home game without spectators.

FIFA has today published the sanctions imposed by its Disciplinary Committee for incidents that took place in the preliminary competition for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022â„¢ in the first quarter of this year.

In line with FIFA’s zero-tolerance stance against discrimination and violence in football, a number of member associations have been punished due to the abusive behaviour by their respective supporters.

Over 30 Countries were also fined over different infractions during the World Cup Qualifiers.
