Resolutions of the Nigerian Bar Association, NEC meeting regarding the suspended CJN

Good evening Learned Senior Advocates, Revered Elders, Respected Senior and Dear Colleagues, as you are aware, the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association had summoned an emergency NEC meeting for today to discuss the Suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Hon. Mr. Justice Walter Onnoghen GCON by the President on Friday the 25th of January 2019 and the subsequent swearing in of Hon. Mr. Justice Tanko Mohammed JSC as the acting CJN, rising from the emergency NEC meeting, the following resolutions were reached:

  1. That Hon. Mr. Justice Walter Onnoghen GCON remains the Chief Justice of Nigeria and that his purported removal from office is null and void
  2. That the NBA does not recognize Hon. Mr. Justice Tanko Mohammed JSC as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria his appointment being null and void
  3. That the NBA demand the immediate reversal of the purported suspension from office of Hon. Mr. Justice Walter Onnoghen GCON as the Chief Justice of Nigeria by the President on the 25th January 2019
  4. That pursuant to 3 above, the NBA has resolved to proceed on 2 days warning boycott of Courts across the Federation from tomorrow Tuesday the 29th of January 2019 to Wednesday the 30th of January 2019 to press home its position and demands
  5. That where the demands are not immediately complied with by the Executive, then more actions by the NBA will follow.

To this effect therefore, the members of the NBA Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) are hereby put on notice to boycott all courts within and outside jurisdiction of the Federal Capital Territory from tomorrow Tuesday the 29th of January 2019 to Wednesday the 30th of January 2019
