The Association of professional women engineers of Nigeria, APWEN 1st Prof. Philomena Igbokwe lecture Series

The association of professional women engineers of Nigeria, APWEN, Awka chapter under the distinguished chairmanship of Engr. Nneka Ezeani, MNSE held her maiden Prof. Philomena Igbokwe lecture Series today, Nov.12th ,2021.

The association of professional women engineers of Nigeria, APWEN is a non-profit, non-governmental, educational and service organization and a division of the Nigerian society of Engineers, (NSE). In her 36 years of existence, APWEN has encouraged young girls into the study of Engineering, spurred collegiate members to remain in the profession post graduation through various activities.

The first and remarkable annual lecture series was held at the chisco school of transport auditorium, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka with theme : ENGINEERING FOR SOCIETAL IMPACT, OPTIMIZATION STRATEGIES IN PRODUCTION PROCESSES.

Engr. Prof. Chinonso Achebe, Dean student affairs of the university who was the guest lecturer gave a didactic lecture on the importance of optimization not only for engineering processing but to all facets of life in general.

Highlights of the event were competition by APWEN Unizik collegiate members, award presentations, presentation of Philomena Igbokwe’s award of Academic excellence to the best graduating female student in the faculty of Engineering 2019/2020 academic session, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The outgoing president of the APWEN Unizik collegiate, Onyinye Ibeziako swore in the newly elected president, Nancy Anayo and her entire executives to enable the student wing of APWEN to keep moving on stronger.

Engr. Sir Ofodile presented an award of excellence to Prof. Philomena Igbokwe in a grand style.

Among the awardees at the event were,

 

Engr. Prof Hyacinth Inyiama, Engr.Prof J.T Nwabanne (The Dean, Faculty of Engineering Unizik), Engr. Prof Lious Chukwuemeka Orakwe, Engr. Dr.Anyinye Emmanuel Anazia, Engr. Dr Christopher Ezeagwu, Engr. Dr. Stone Opera and Engr. Dr. Charles Chikwendu Okpala.

Top of the award recipients was Okey-Nwankwo kosiso Prudence who was giving an award of academic excellence as the female best graduating student in the faculty of Engineering, 2019/2020 session. A cheque of one hundred thousand naira was presented to her.
