Later that night, Dija shared the news with Charles. “I’m pregnant,” she announced when they were having dinner.“That’s great!” he said, leaning forward to give her a kiss. “So what are we expecting? A boy or girl?” he asked excitedly.
“It’s too early to tell,” she said, giving him a playful spank. She did not mention anything about the pregnancy to Chizzy because she did not want to risk him coming to claim the child or tell Charles about their secret affairs.
As the pregnancy progressed, Dija started to feel very sick and was vomiting almost every time she ate. She became worried and decided to go back to the hospital.
“You have a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum,” the doctor informed her.“What is that?” she asked.“It’s an extreme form of morning sickness in which a pregnant woman experiences persistent and severe nausea and vomiting, which may eventually lead to dehydration and weight loss. It usually occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy, and its cause is unknown. However, rapidly rising levels of certain hormones in pregnancy are thought to play a role.”
“How can one know if they have hyperemesis gravidarum?” Dija asked.“Symptoms include severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, which occurs more than three to four times a day; excessive salivation; weight loss; dizziness and light-headedness; extreme fatigue; and dehydration, which may be evidenced by a decrease in the amount of urine passed,” the doctor explained.

“It may also interest you to know that certain factors like first-time pregnancies; being pregnant with more than one baby, for example, twins; history of having it in previous pregnancies; and obesity put you at higher risk of having it,” the doctor added.“How can it be prevented?” she asked, concerned.
“There are no known ways to prevent it. However, practices such as taking vitamin B6, eating small frequent meals, and eating bland food may help,” the doctor said.
“I will need to place you on admission to ensure adequate rehydration and treatment. You should be able to go home in a couple of days,” the doctor informed her.
Since Dija had been placed for admission and the pregnancy was going to be evident soon, she decided to tell Chizzy about it.
“Are you totally sure this child is not mine?” he asked when he saw her.
“I’m sure it’s not!” she snapped.
“Calm down, young lady. Only time will tell,” he said with a smirk on his face. “I actually came to let you know I’ll be leaving town for good,” Chizzy said.“Leaving town? Why?” she asked disappointedly.
“I can’t stay around being your toy boy while you go home to your husband every day. I need to start a family of my own,” he said.
“Please don’t go!” she begged. “I can’t bear to lose you a second time.”
