Tension rippled through Port Harcourt as a group of Rivers women staged a dramatic walkout during an empowerment programme organised by Oluremi Tinubu.
The event, which was meant to distribute empowerment items to 500 women in the state, took a different turn when Mrs. Theresa Ibas, wife of the Sole Administrator, was invited to speak on behalf of the First Lady. Eyewitnesses said the mood in the hall shifted almost instantly as her name was announced.
Shortly after, a section of the women, dressed in matching attire, stood up and marched out of the venue, chanting “We want SIM”, a slogan interpreted by observers as a show of support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The incident caused a mild stir at the centre, drawing the attention of security personnel and officials who tried to manage the situation.
Videos of the walkout quickly surfaced online, drawing reactions from X (formerly Twitter) users. One user, DFrank.E, remarked, “Their mama has been rejected again,” while another, Obyno Sicily, wrote, “Forcing yourself on the people is not the problem, getting their love, respect & support is the main task.”
Others suggested the protest was politically motivated. “All this is sponsored… this is politics and it’s dirty, all players play the same game, but Sim should be careful with this sponsor thing, this might make the matter longer than expected,” Vakpo wrote.
However, not all reactions were confrontational. Ben Samuel described the protest as a peaceful expression of democracy.
“This is how democracy is done peacefully and passes your messages across easily,” he said.

Unfortunately, SIM Fubara doesn’t understand the power he has in the people’s backing…. With his recent romance with Aso rock deities and The belligerent Wike… These women might be disappointed afterall…..
Nigeria is not an ideal Nation…for the Military regime to still continue till now in Rivers…. Democracy in Nigeria is just but a “gwo gwo ngwo” story.
