Prof. Orogbu, an Academician, Administrator and Technocrat turned Politician, appealed to her colleagues to see the importance of the Motion, which has kept alot of UNIZIK staff and workers across the Nation in serious financial crisis.

While leading the debate, she made a case for the UNIZIK staff and other workers in Nigeria, she said “as we speak, there are hundreds, if not thousands of staff who were genuinely employed and haven’t even being captured. What happens is that IPPIS occasionally come to the University and do selective capturing. Those employees who don’t have people at the top speaking for them are left without being captured”. This issue is still biting. I am aware even in my former department where I was, we have people who are working and teaching for 3years and above who have not being paid”.

“The house need to look into this mattter. it’s quite unfair that people would be working for 3 years, take transport in Nigeria of today and they are not being paid. Sir, these people have families, some of them are bread winners, they need to be paid, not just in UNIZIK but all Universities in the Federation”.

Contributing to the debate on the Motion, the Deputy Speaker, who chaired the plenary stated that “A labourer should go home with his wages and IPPIS should not be used to punish those who labour for the national growth of our Nation. If After our legislative intervention in the 9th Assembly and this is still lingering on. I agree, this Motion is timely and something must be done about it”

Finally, the House resolved to invite the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Accountant General of the Federation, Managers of IPPIS and other relevant Stakeholders, to appear before the House, towards finding a lasting solution to the capturing and payment of UNIZIK staff and other workers in Nigeria.
