Yemi suggested we stop over at the mall since there’d be a lot of people around who could
raise an alarm if the stalker tried to harm us. I thought it was a good idea so I obliged. I was
so sure the stalker would follow us into the mall but immediately we arrived at the mall the
black car sped past us. The driver had probably figured out that we had taken him on a
goose chase and decided he wasn’t going to keep wasting his time.
“The stalker is gone,” I announced, heaving a sigh of relief.
“That was close,” Yemi said, “I was so scared when I realised the car was following us. It’s
high time we got ourselves bodyguards,” she joked.
“On a more serious note, we need to be more careful,” I added matter-of-factly.
After tirelessly waiting in the car, we decided to go into the mall to have lunch and wait for a
while in case the stalker was still lurking around. I had just started enjoying my delicious
jollof rice and chicken when I spotted one of my patients walking towards the area of the
food court where we were seated. Normally I’d have just waved with a smile and said “hello”
but this situation wasn’t normal—the patient approaching us was Mrs. Bode and that woman
could talk and ask questions for Africa, it was almost like she had a word target to reach
every day and I was in no mood for chitchat so I immediately bent down to hide under the
table. Next thing I knew Yemi bent down and joined me under the table without even thinking
twice,
“What’s going on? Where is he?” she said, moving her head up and down like a lizard.

“Where is who?” I asked, looking at her like she was crazy. I wasn’t enjoying the extra
company under the table—the tiny space was barely enough for me and the twins and now
Yemi had come to squeeze us all in further.
“The stalker,” she said, “isn’t that why you’re hiding?”
“No silly!” I replied, “I’m hiding from one of my patients!” The look she gave me after hearing
that was priceless. She immediately let out a long hiss and squeezed herself back out from
underneath the table. “You can sleep there if you like,” she said, dusting herself off and
sitting down to continue with her food. Luckily for me, my escape was successful, Mrs. Bode
didn’t see me.
After about 2 hours we decided to go home. This time there was no one following us but I
couldn’t get my mind off the incident. “Should we report it to the police?” I asked Yemi.
“What’s the point? It’s not like they are going to do anything about it,” she replied.
“You’re right,” I said, “they’d probably not take it seriously.”
On our way back home, Yemi received a call from Charly and from the moment she picked
the call, she just kept saying “uh hum, uh hum, yeah I’m listening…” I could tell the gist was
interesting and I was curious to know what they were talking about then suddenly she
screamed and said, “You know what? Let me call you back!”
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“It’s Moyo,” she replied.
“Moyo?” I asked, looking puzzled, “what about him?”
“He’s demanding custody of their son.”
“What nonsense?!” I screamed, almost hitting the car in front of us. I was burning in anger,
why would Moyo want custody of a boy he abandoned? Why did he suddenly remember he
had a son?
I smelt trouble and I was worried about how Charly would handle the situation…
