Old Enough Yet Unmarried – Episode 2

Luckily Oby doesn’t live too far from me, it only took a few minutes to drive down to herplace. As soon as I arrived, I rang the doorbell and anxiously waited for her to answer. A fewseconds later, I was greeted at the door by her mum, the last person I wanted to see,”Hello mummy,” I greeted her with a fake smile leaning forward to hug her.

“Who is your mummy? Your mates have popped out four kids already, you’re still here saying
hello mummy,” she hissed, “your friend is in her room hiding herself as usual,” she added sarcastically, sitting down to watch TV.
I guess now you can understand why I wasn’t so thrilled to see her, I don’t even get why she hates me so much, for some funny reason she thinks I’m a bad influence on her daughter but that’s totally her own cup of tea, I’ve begged Oby over a million times to move in with
Yemi and I but she insists on staying with her parents till she moves into her husband’s house which, by the way, I don’t see happening any time soon, what with the recent developments.
“Babe what happened?” I said, dragging her to the bed to sit once we were safely behind closed doors. “We fought again,” she sniffed, “I was only trying to advise him on the mistakes he was making with this new business he’s been planning to start and he blew the whole thing out of proportion.”

“That’s serious. Was that why he took his ring back?” I asked.
“That’s the part I don’t get,” Oby replied. “He just totally went mad and started saying nasty things that were uncalled for, one thing led to another and he was pulling at my finger trying to take off the ring, until I finally took it off myself and threw it at him. To cut the long story
short, he eventually broke off the engagement and walked me out of his house.”
“I’m so sorry to hear that” I said, hugging her, “you’ll be fine, okay? You don’t need that proud idiot in your life anyway!”
“says who? I need him like the air I breathe,” she sobbed, “he’s the only man I’ve ever loved!
The only one who accepted me even with my flaws,” she said, wiping her tears with the back of her hands.

“What flaws?” I said looking at her like she was crazy. As far as I was concerned, she was perfect and any man who had her as a wife should have considered himself lucky.
“I have epilepsy, remember?” she snapped. Silly me, how could I have forgotten? Oby had been taking drugs to control her epileptic seizures for as long as I could remember. Her self-esteem had been badly affected because
many guys refused to date her because of it, and that was probably why she stayed with Emeka all these years, despite his silly attitude.
Just in case you didn’t know, epilepsy is a condition that affects the brain. It causes the sufferer to have recurrent seizures. Seizures are physical manifestations of abnormal electrical activity in the brain which may range from uncontrolled jerking movements to temporary loss of consciousness.

Epilepsy can be caused by so many factors, including complications that occurred during childbirth causing the baby to lack oxygen, serious head injuries, drug abuse, tumours in the
brain, and medical conditions such as a stroke. In some cases the cause is unknown.
I would’ve loved to continue my lecture but now is not a good time to bore you with medical jargon like we doctors do. Yes! I said WE because I’m a doctor. I didn’t mention that earlier so you wouldn’t think I was the boring one of the bunch. Feel free to call me Dr. Tess like my patients do. I love being called Dr, it makes me feel like a boss lady.
Anyway, enough about me, back to the matter at hand. I managed to convince Oby that she needs a vacation to take her mind off her current situation and she was actually considering
it. In the meantime I would be conducting my personal investigations into Emeka. Trust me to find the babe controlling his “mumu” (Nigerian for fool) button, she’ll wish her father had
used a condom by the time I’m done with her.

Just as I left Oby’s house, my phone rang again, this time it was Yemi calling. “Babe
wassup?” I asked when I picked up.
“You need to come home now, there’s fire on the mountain,” she replied anxiously.
“What’s all this talk about fire? Please be serious for once,” I snapped. I had had a long day and wasn’t in the mood for any of her pranks today.
“This is a serious matter,” she continued, “you know I told you; I was going to work today to finish all my outstanding paperwork?”
“Yes you did,” I replied.
“Well seeing as next weekend is Valentine’s weekend and I’m supposed to be working, I was hoping I could swap shifts with one of my colleagues but when I asked, she told me it wouldn’t be possible because she had a wedding to attend next weekend and she was on
the bridal train.”
“So that’s what you’re calling fire on the mountain?” I asked, already irritated.
“Calm down, let me give you the gist ,” she continued. “This one is too heavy for my ears alone to carry.” She brought out the invitation to show me. “That was when I recognised Moyo’s surname on it,” she said.
“Which Moyo?” I asked, “Charly’s boyfriend,” she hissed.
” How are you so sure it’s him?” I asked.
“Don’t be in a hurry, let me finish,” she scolded. “I didn’t want to jump to conclusions; luckily they had a wedding website for RSVPs which they included on the invitation card so I asked
my colleague to open the site and show me the couple. Lo and behold sister, it was Moyo’s picture I saw. He was embracing the other woman and smiling,” she finished.
“Are you sure of what you’re saying?” I asked.
“Are you trying to say I’m blind?” she hissed again, “I’m telling you I saw our friend’s boo ‘smiling sheepishly like a toothpaste ambassador’ with his wife-to-be and you’re asking silly
questions.”
“Wow!” I replied, still in shock. “Make sure you don’t tell her anything yet, we’ll discuss how to break the news to her when I’m home,” I said, hanging up the phone.
I’m really worried about how Charly will handle the news, she almost lost her life 2 years ago while giving birth to a son for this same man and now he’s getting married to someone else.
Why are men so heartless?
