Dear Nigerians, it has been brought to our notice once again that the Nigerian government may be likely trying to scam her own citizens.

Following successful talks and extensive, mutually beneficial negotiations between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria @NigeriaGov, an agreement was reached allowing for the resumption of travel to the UAE for Nigerian passport holders.

This agreement includes updated controls and conditions to facilitate obtaining a UAE visa.

That was the announcement made by the Federal Government earlier today.

Did you notice the website URL on blue where Federal Government said the application would take place?

Hold my beer 🍻…..

David Hundeyin came through again…

UAE government websites all end with the “.gov.ae” URL. This website is simply “.ae” which means it is not an official UAE government website. Furthermore, according to @scamadviser, the actual owner of the website is hiding their identity by using a paid proxy.

So because of this tweet, I dug in a bit and apparently it turns out that the proxy owner being used to hide the true owner is some Canadian guy called Jean Geoffrion.

He is the CTO at a Spanish IT company called Global Voice Group, which according to its website, specialises in “provision of RegTech and Govtech solutions…domestic revenue mobilisation and regulatory compliance.”

My unsolicited take on this UAE visa thing is that – you see that website? 100% FG trying to fleece Nigerians & UAE has nothing to do with it.
UAE probably just made a simple request to FG “ensure applicants are vetted properly before they apply for our visa”.

This company also appears to only do business in Africa and in fact much of its management team is African.

So in summary, we have a website with a hidden owner contracting an IT middleman who specialises in “raising sustainable revenue” through high-traffic regulatory activities (such as visa applications) to operate the website on their behalf.

This website is not affiliated with the UAE government and the middleman operating it appears to only be active in African jurisdictions. My educated guess is that there is a private company behind all of this – possibly linked to someone in Aso Rock or the Foreign Ministry – which has quietly positioned itself to rip Nigerians off.

In fact, I’d go as far as to guess that the reason why the visa ban dragged on for so long – and why there were multiple false dawns – is that this private entity was haggling over details like revenue split.

I now await the frenzied, angry denials followed by the tacit admission that I’ve not even scratched the surface. If you’re familiar with Nigeria, none of this will come as a surprise.

In summary for those that didn’t understand, Nigerian Government might be probably trying to scam Nigerians as the website they provided for Nigerians on behalf of the UAE is obviously fraudulent…… The evidence is all you saw above… It’s a pity… We await to hear from the UAE… David Hundeyin is their Nightmare.
