The policemen immediately rushed to catch up with him, he was lifeless. Within minutes, he was rushed to the hospital but declared de@d after all efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive. He had suffered internal bleeding.
Internal bleeding is when there is damage to the blood vessels causing blood to collect inside the body instead of bleeding out through an open wound. It can occur suddenly or can be slow and with few symptoms until the blood loss becomes severe. It could be caused by significant physical trauma like in the case of Michael who had internal bleeding as a result of the high-velocity impact on his body from the accident. Internal bleeding can also occur as a complication of surgery or ectopic pregnancy. One of the dangers of internal bleeding is that unlike external bleeding, it cannot be easily detected. Some symptoms of internal bleeding may be dizziness, general weakness, unexplained fatigue, shortness of breath and possible bruising around the site of injury. Severe internal bleeding can be life threatening and could eventually lead to de@th.
Michael’s desperate quest for relocation eventually led to his demise. He lost a potentially good life partner because he was fixated on moving to a particular country, so much so that he did not mind betraying his long term girlfriend to achieve his goals.

Sugar and Gbenga got along really well, they started off as being really good friends as Sugar was not in a hurry to jump into any relationship. Gbenga was a gentleman, he was willing to wait. From their first meeting, he was drawn to Sugar. For their first ever date, he had chosen to show off his culinary skills, he had made a full course meal with freshly squeezed juice and homemade cocktails. Sugar was so impressed that she couldn’t hide it especially coming from a relationship where her partner couldn’t cook and never helped out with chores, the only time that Michael ever commented about her cooking was to say it was too salty when she accidentally put too much salt or say it wasn’t spicy enough when he felt she didn’t add enough pepper. Moreover, Michael only liked to eat food that was freshly cooked. Once the food had spent at least a night in the freezer, he wouldn’t eat it, this meant that Sugar had to spend her time cooking a fresh meal every time just to please Michael.
Gbenga on the other hand was different, he wasn’t the kind of man that thought that the kitchen was a woman’s place. He cooked regular meals for Sugar and complimented her meals as well. When she woke up tired on some weekends, he would serve her breakfast in bed. He was that romantic guy that would sometimes set up a candle light dinner at home or take her for a surprise dinner outing after work. He was gentle, kind and patient.
Many women in Gbenga’s workplace did not like Sugar, she had gotten some scornful looks from some of his female co-workers especially the ones of African descent when he had taken her for a social event organised by his employer. You see, as peaceful and amazing as Canada was, there was one social challenge and that was the challenge of finding a spouse, especially a spouse from the same country of origin. Many single people in Canada faced this challenge.

Canada is the kind of country where everyone minds their business, you could have a next door neighbour for years and not even know their name or say “hello” to them, you could have co-workers that you may never hang out with outside of work or work-related activities.
Africans are a minority population in Canada, so sometimes finding African friends could be difficult, how much more finding an African spouse? Canada could get lonely sometimes and the loneliness is even worse in the winter months especially when you have no friends or family. So it was no wonder that Gbenga’s female co-workers were jealous of Sugar, after all, many of them had tried and were still trying to date him but without success. He was nice and friendly with them but never let them cross the friend zone.
Sugar fell hopelessly in love with Gbenga with time, she didn’t even realise when she eventually let her guard down, Gbenga had earned her trust and she was ready to give love another chance.
One day after a long day at work, Sugar was at Gbenga’s place relaxing on the sofa in his living room and scrolling through her phone while he was in the bathroom taking a shower. All of a sudden, Gbenga heard screaming from the living room followed by silence, “is everything ok?” He shouted from the shower, but there was no response. It seemed pretty unusual that Sugar would scream for no reason as she was not the loud or noisy type. “I hope she’s ok” he thought, starting to panic, quickly turning off the shower and wrapping his towel around his waist as he hurried to the living room to find out what could have happened.
