How Peter Obi handled Flood disaster in Anambra, 2012 (video)

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour party is by far different from the rest of the top 3 contenders for the apex job in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, some Nigerians still underrate Peter Obi or intentionally chose to be blind to the obvious probably cus he is bringing a different style of politics to the Nigerian system.

Jkcyno news brings a video of how Peter Obi handled the flood disaster that hit most parts of Nigeria, especially Anambra State in 2012 when he was the governor of Anambra state.

One of the things most Nigerian leaders lack is “empathy” to Nigerians which is totally different from sympathy. Thousands would be killed by terrorists or any other disaster either man made or natural in Nigeria and all the president or most governors would do is come online and condemn the act and assure the citizens to move on with their rightful duties.

Ordinarily, an empathic president or governor should visit the affected people, stay with them, feel their pain first hand without recourse to all the usual rhetorics of “i condemn the act” rubbish they always use.

In 2012, 10 years ago, Ogbaru LGA of Anambra state was greatly affected by the flood disaster. Peter Obi visited the scene, entered the flood, rode on a canoe 🛶 and spoke to the people that elected him. He had the option of sending his aides or speaking to the people of Ogbaru from Awka government house, but he didn’t. He took the risk to visit them.

Peter Obi not only visited them but set up 11 IDP camps including opening up the government house to displaced citizens. He also allowed Kogi state residents to sought refuge in Anambra state. The state took care of them until the issues got resolved. The government helped the affected people of Ogbaru rebuild their broken homes.

That’s what i call true leadership.

10 years after, same flood disaster is here both in Anambra and other states like Lokoja in Kogi State, we are watching on how they are handling it.
