Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann all scored in a thrilling final in Moscow
Paul Pogba delivered a captain’s display to inspire France to win the World Cup over Croatia in Moscow.
The Manchester United star scored a delightful goal from the edge of the area in a frantic game that involved plenty of controversy.
The opener, from a Mario Mandzukic own-goal, was disputed due to Antoine Griezmann going down under seemingly little contact, while Pogba seemed to be offside and interfering with play after the Atletico star’s delivery.
Perisic then went from hero to villain, handling in the area to cost his side a penalty after the aid of VAR. Griezmann duly stepped up and rolled it home to gift Les Bleus the lead again.
The end-to-end nature of the game continued in the second half and Pogba punished Croatia with a delightful third, curling it into the left corner from the edge of the area.
It was four soon after with Kylian Mbappe driving home from distance low into the bottom left corner.
But it was not over yet as Croatia rallied thanks to a Hugo Lloris howler.
The Spurs goalkeeper attempted to skip past the onrushing Mario Mandzukic, but the Juventus star read it perfectly to deflect into the empty net.
Deschamps’ side weathered the storm late on though to land their second World Cup in their history and spark the start of a potentially dominant era in French football.
