On Geometric Power Plant & Aba IPP, here are the FACTS you need to know:
Prof. Berth Nnaji returned to Nigeria during Obasanjo’s Golden Era. He was one of the many Nigerian diaspora professionals that went back to assist in the Nation Building efforts. He served as the Minister of Power under Goodluck Jonathan.
Barth was the best man for the job, he was poised to fix the power sector.
However, like Ojota Protest against Subsidy removal by Ebele Jonathan in 2012, the APC played their very ugly & dirty opposition. They hounded Barth until he resigned honorably. OBJ & GEJ’s Privatization & Power Sector Reforms gave birth to Aba IPP.
This was how the Geometric Power Plant in Aba came into being. It has been in the works since then.
Barth Nnaji & his wife are good business people. Together, they make a fine team. The wife is the GMD of Geometric Power Limited.
Nigeria would have made quantum leap in stable electricity, but the APC chose to politicize the Privatization & the Power Sector Reforms.

And 12 years later, Nigeria is still in darkness, grappling with National Grid collapses. Geometric Power Plant had been in the works since then. It faced a lot of challenges, from access to funding to COVID, etc. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had to step in at some point, during her time at the World Bank.
Alex Otti being a banker-cum-administrator par excellence, he tele-guided the project to a rapid completion.
The truth is that this project would have been delivered a lot time ago. The PDP led Okezie Ikpeazu would have moved the needle, only he didn’t. Alex should be commended for his hunger to leave Abia better than he met it. That’s sheer doggedness if you ask me.
Geometric Power is the pioneer in the Nigerian power sector. They’ve been in business since the year 2000. They installed the first high efficiency combined emergency power station in 2001 for the FCT.
The 22 MW Emergency Power Station guaranteed a 15MW power supply to the then NEPA, Abuja.
The Energy Performance Contract (EPC) for the Aba IPP power plant is General Electric USA. Group Five of South Africans is the contractor for the power station. The substations contractor is Pauwels Contracting of Belgium, & the over-head power lines contractor is ABB Powerlines Nig LTD.
