“Please, don’t feel offended by my husband’s actions” my mum pleaded with David after my father had gone upstairs. “It’s ok Ma. I can understand how he feels” David replied, obviously trying to hide his disappointment.
“I’ll prove myself to your father,” he said, reassuring me, “I love Chioma more than words can express, and I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to marry her,” he said, turning to face my mum.
“You have my support and blessings” my mum replied, “I will do my best to convince her dad to accept your proposal” she added.
Few minutes later, I walked David to the door, my heart filled with a mix of hope and anxiety. His eyes met mine, and in that moment, I saw vulnerability. He was aware of the challenges he faced, yet he remained steadfast.
“I’ll keep trying,” he said softly, his voice tinged with determination. “Your father will see the love we share. I believe that.”
“I believe it too,” I whispered. With that, he pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead and left, promising to call me later that night. As I watched him drive away, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was fighting not just for my father’s approval but for our future together. And in that moment, I knew I had chosen someone truly extraordinary to love.
My father refused to accept David’s marriage proposal even after I was done with my housemanship. My pregnancy was already starting to show and I didn’t want to have a child out of wedlock, so I sought my Mum’s blessings to go ahead to get married to David. Reluctantly, she gave her blessings, knowing that it would mean she was betraying her own husband.
I had made up my mind to go ahead to marry David, even if it meant disobeying my Dad. David wasn’t happy about my decision, he pleaded for us to give my Dad a little more time to come around, but I insisted I wanted to get married before my pregnancy became obvious. Besides, I was no longer experiencing morning sickness, so it was a good time to have a wedding party.
Morning sickness is nausea and vomiting that you experience in pregnancy. It commonly affects many pregnant women in their first trimester (first 3 months of pregnancy). Although the name “morning” sickness is somewhat misleading, because it can happen at any time of the day.
Morning sickness can start as early as the 6th week of pregnancy, but usually gets better by the end of the first trimester. The actual cause of morning sickness is unknown, however, it is thought that hormonal changes in pregnancy might play a role.

Avoiding spicy and fatty foods, eating several small meals instead of large meals, and taking ginger or mints have proven helpful in reducing morning sickness in some women.
Eventually, I was able to convince David to move on without my Dad and we made the necessary arrangements to get married. My Dad had been resolute in his decisions not to give his blessings and remained unmoved by I and my mother’s pleas. Our destination wedding was scheduled to take place in Dubai in a few weeks. Only close friends had been invited. David had hired a private jet to fly my friends and his down to Dubai for the wedding party.
Shopping for the wedding dress turned out to be an unforgettable experience. My best friends, Ella and Ugochi, accompanied me to the mall. We entered a bridal boutique, a haven of lace, silk, and tulle. The air was filled with the scent of fresh flowers, adding to the ambiance of anticipation.
As I stepped into the first dress, a wave of emotions washed over me. The soft fabric hugged my figure, and I couldn’t help but twirl, imagining myself walking down the aisle to David.
Dress after dress, I tried on various styles, from the classic ball gown to the sleek mermaid cut. Each gown had its charm, but I was searching for the one that felt like it was made for me. Ella and Ugochi were my pillars of support, offering honest opinions and wiping away my happy tears.
And then, I found it – the perfect dress. It was a blend of elegance and simplicity. The bodice was adorned with delicate lace, and the flowing skirt cascaded gracefully to the floor. When I looked in the mirror, I felt like a princess, and in that moment, I knew this was the dress I would wear when I said my vows to David.
With the dress chosen, we moved on to accessories. A veil, a tiara, and a pair of pearl earrings completed the ensemble, enhancing the bridal aura.
After we were done at the bridal store, we headed to the shoe store to get my shoes.As we entered, my eyes scanned the aisles, searching for the perfect pair of shoes that would complement my wedding dress. But just as I began to relax into the pleasant atmosphere of the store, I felt a sudden, firm grip on my arm.
My heart skipping a beat, I turned around to see who it was, only to find Rowland standing there, his expression a mix of surprise and something I couldn’t quite place.
