#COVID-19 : Emir of Daura Rushed Into Intensive Care, Governor seals Palace

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar has been rushed Into the intensive care unit of the Federal Medical Centre Katsina for COVID-19 complications.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters who quoted a palace source, the Emir was rushed into intensive care in a critical condition on Monday night.

The report alleged that the Emir of Daura contracted the virus from his personal physician Dr. Aminu Yakubu a private medical practitioner who was the index case of COVID-19 in Katsina State.

The doctor was said to have met with Emir Umar and his wife shortly before he died.

However, the Katsina State Government has shut down the palace of the Emir of Daura as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Governor Aminu Masari, who made the disclosure in Katsina while giving update on the COVID-19 situation in the state, said there was no ulterior  motive to the decision to quarantine the palace.

“Palace is a place where people visit all the time, we take this decision to contain spread of Coronavirus.

“Reports reaching me reveal that people in rural areas don’t obey the order, people gather during marriages, naming ceremonies, burials and other social gatherings.

“I have directed the Emirs of Katsina and Daura to deal decisively with anyone violating the order,” he said.

The governor explained that there have been some COVID-19 positive cases from the palace, while samples of 89 people had been taken from the palace for screening by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
