The Supreme Court has upheld the election victory of Abba Yusuf, officially confirming him as the governor of Kano state. The five-member panel of the apex court deemed the earlier decisions by the tribunal and the court of appeal, which initially removed Yusuf, the NNPP candidate, from the governorship, as erroneous.

In the lead Judgement, the court says the Court of Appeal was wrong in affirming the decision of the tribunal, which held that Yusuf did not win the majority of lawful votes cast at the Governorship Election.
