3 sets of Crime on-going in Anambra state as bloodbath continues (video)

It may seem as though there is a civil war ongoing in Anambra state currently.

The big question would be, Why Anambra?, who are these Unknown Gunmen?

The once most peaceful state in the entire southeast is fast becoming the most crime prone state.

Jkcyno news earlier reported that “Imo-Awka” shrine chief priest was  killed in his shrine and Gunmen attack townhall meeting in Ekwulobia (video) killing some policemen, soldiers and other security personnel.

From our findings, there are 3 sets of insurrection ongoing in Anambra state currently.

First, the most dreaded “unknown gunmen” who are gradually becoming known. Those are the people whose main aim is to kidnap innocent citizens, extort and hide under the guise of IPOB and Perpetuate crimes.

From the severe gun battle between the joint forces of the army and police at Nnobi, in Anambra state which saw some of the criminals killed revealed from the gruesome pictures which we can’t post here that they are not really “igbos” judging from their looks.

Who really are they? The so-called Fulani herders infiltrating the Eastern part of the country?

The video above isn’t a war scene from Mel Gibson’s movie but a dark reality that has befallen “ndị Anambra”.

Second sets of the criminals are the cultists whose war territory is domiciled in Awka, the state capital and her immediate environment. Their nefarious activities have always been in “on and off” the season depending on when they are set out to do their usual “igba-war”.

On a daily basis, youths are being butchered like “nama” either at” Ifite, Okpuno, Aroma, kwata junction” all inside Awka town with police either not trying to get involved or in some cases, would keep a blind eye while thinking of how to engage the terrorists attacking them directly.  RIP to the innocent people that have lost their lives due to this unfortunate mayhem.

fish-king“, owner Chidozie in the popular Abakaliki Street being the latest victim.

The third and the most misconstrued sets are the IPOB people. These sets of individuals who have no visible head aside their leader, Nnamdi Kanu Who’s currently in the shackles of the DSS keep spewing fire that there wouldn’t be an election in Anambra state come, Nov. 6th. Their major problem is centered on election hence, all crimes committed in the state are being heaped on their frailty shoulders.

How do we solve this quadratic equation of looming war….?

Below is a write up by an Anambra indigene, Tobenna Obiano whose story helped buttress more on the cultisim war ongoing in Awka to be precise and Willie’s part in the unabated crime.

Awka: Bloodbath Returns to the City.

The news coming from Awka in Anambra State, about happenings in the state capital of the past one week and even more is very devastating, shocking and saddening. In Awka town alone, there has been well over eleven assasinations recorded just last week.

At every instance, blame games are thrown up, fingers are pointed and accusations following counter accusations happen. In what has now become sad, a new trend in the city, bulk of the assassinations are targeted on young people. Awka indegenes themselves too are in trouble. Dare devil criminals, assassination kingpins and cult boys have wholly overtaken the city.

I was born, breed and brought up in the city. I did my Nursery/Primary school at Handmaids Infant Jesus Nursery/Primary school, located inside the St. Patrick’s Catholic cathedral compound. I proceeded to the mission-owned Tansi International College, Awka for my secondary school. It was my university studies that took me outside Awka, and later, the shores of Nigeria.

I’ve grown to love and cherish the city. I’ve grown to know the city inside and out. I’ve gotten quite used to the city. I must add, Awka has always been known to be a very peaceful place, where its serenity has continued to endear many. However, in recent times, a lot of things has changed, and it has continued to detoriate or get worsened by every passing day.

What has now become of Awka is a scary nightmare; one many would wish isn’t true or really happening. The city is no more safe. It’s not about those who are criminally-minded or cultists. It’s not safe for anyone. There has been cases of assasinations that are wholly unconnected with any crime or cultism. I would give one very sad instance.

Chidozie, is a co-owner of Fish-King which is undeniably one of the best fresh fish Babeque packaging and bar outlet in Awka, Anambra State. At Fish-King, their Babeque is usually well garnished and neatly served to all and sundry. Chidozie aside co-owning Fish-King is a multi-talented young man. He loves to garner knowledge, grow his outreach and learn from others.

Very early last year, when I hosted my very good friend, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah at my home and later, with his powerful entourage at Vertex View Hotels, Nibo, on demand, we needed more Babeque and I rang Chidozie who dutifully got his staffers to work, package and deliver about 25 fishes to our location. There has been many other instances where I had called him for deliveries and he did them perfectly well.

When Chief. Anthony Enukeme, CEO, TONIMAS groups passed on; and our media outfit, EXPLORER MAGAZINE got the contract for coverage of the burial / funeral for feature in our magazine, Chidozie reached out to me and asked if he could join my team to the event. I asked him to be prepared, and that he would join me personally to same event.

It was at that event while relaxing at the VIP session that we got talking. He told me about how he acquired landed properties at Igbariam at very low cost. He suggested that I could do same. I told him plainly that I don’t like buying properties located at undeveloped places, as I already have too many of such. I preferred buying at developed areas, where the gains multiplies quicker.

In his constant advise and request, I had concluded plans to have our real estate firm, PKT Properties purchase the landed properties from there, even more than the numbers he said he had bought for himself. He even told me that he would request for the agency fee, and was willing to return it back to me, just so that I own properties there. They were all at good costs. We were supposed to seal this deal by end of November, and now this …

I was headed for Enugu, from where I would travel to Lagos when my phone rang. It was our friend Senator, Ejikeme Benedict Ifeanyịchukwu who was calling from Canada. There was no time for the usual exchange of pleasantries. He was straight to the point, “… our friend, Fish-King, Chidozie has just been murdered”.

At first, I didn’t understand. I tried to ignore him, and he said again, “… they said it’s a case of a mistaken identity. He was killed around Okpuno axis there in Awka, where he lives”. I didn’t understand that. It didn’t mak any sense to me. I was angered, lost and totally frustrated. What a waste! Why?

It’s not my habit to vouch for anyone, but you see that one, he’s one of the cleanest guys I’ve ever seen around. Chidozie isn’t into cultism. Chidozie isn’t one to cheat on others. Chidozie isn’t someone with any criminally-minded intention or style. Chidozie dresses neatly too. Why on earth would criminals mistake him for another, and so gruesomely murder him?

In minutes, pictorial evidences flooded various social media spaces, carrying his photos and Rest In Peace. I was shattered all the more from Zuba Ono to Bosco Cuthbert Comr Victor Olisaemeka to Paulmiki Agunwa and all the regular patronizers of Fish-King. It has become true. And sad thing, I do not think Chidozie is even from Anambra. I’m not very sure.

That young man, just like Dr. Chike Akunyili does not deserve such death. I feel pained. I feel angered. I feel frustrated. Chidozie is just one, out of the many cases of deaths – assainations majorly happening on the streets of Awka now nearly on a daily basis.

There was news that even the local vigilante that was brought into Awka at the peak of the madness and senseless killings and looting by cultists in the state; the vigilante also called Bakassi boys are either helpless. I learnt cult boys even engaged them, and the Bakassi boys took to their heels.

A lot of nonsense has overtaken the state capital territory of Awka. Many residents now refuse to keep late nights, others totally avoid public engagements and many more have either concluded plans or have already fled the once peaceful city.

Awka isn’t alone with this violence and crime. Many other communities and localities in Anambra has been overtaken near-wholly my cult boys and the unknown Gunmen doing their thing. Thieves do their thing with reckless abandon.

A Catholic Priest of Awka Diocese, Fr. Cornelius who is working in one of the Parishes in Agulu, had gone for retreat at Ugwuoba, and returning into Anambra, just by the boundary / Amansea border, armed bandits opened fire on his vehicle. This was happening around 8:30pm. They shot sporadiclly at his vehicle forcing him to stop.

According to the Priest, he had in his vehicle one singer who assisted him during the retreat. The armed men caught them, started using dangerous weapons and machetes on him. In pain, he pleaded that he had some money in his car, that they go take it and spare his life. These ones were out to kidnap them.

While they continued to machete and drag him deep into the forest, suddenly, through a miraculous intervention, thunderous crackers began like fireworks. It was very loud and scary, that the armed men left him and ran into the bush. However, they still had his singer at the other end. He managed to muster courage, gathered energy and ran out of the forest until he met someone who led him and took him to the hospital.

The singer was held captive however. In the end, it was alleged that a ransom was paid for the release of that very singer. However, even till date, Fr. Cornelius is still at the hospital, clothed in bandages and receiving treatments. He’s lucky to have survived after all. And his singer, was lucky that money came when it did.

There’s yet another case of some of Anambra’s A-list comedians. Prince Neche, MC Osaluoku and one other were headed for Enugu where they were supposed to catch a flight for a somewhat of comedians reunion slated to hold in Lagos. Their vehicle hanged at a bad spot around same Amansea, bad boys came out from the thick forest, captured and took them away.

They were held in captive, beaten mercilessly, forced to walk deep into the thick forest bare footed, slept in the open, under rainfall and mosquito bites. They were asked to make contacts and forced to pay a ransom of a little about four million naira before their release was secured. They and the Priest have since alleged that their kidnap cases were a making of Fulani bandits operating right there.

Sad thing: it seems the Anambra State Governor, Chief. Willie Obiano and the Government of Anambra State is tired and helpless.

The security of lives and properties is the number one of all things any serious Government does or should be doing. Chief. Obiano, yes had a bright beginning, had a flourishing start and had brought Anambra to become one of the safest states in Nigeria; sadly, at the tale end of his administration, borrowing the revered and respected Late. Chinua Achebe’s lines: “things has fallen apart”.

Anambra of today can comfortably be ranked amongst the unsafest states in Nigeria. Things got too messy and bad that the Honorable Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN threatened the state with a possible State of Emergency to be imposed in the state in an election year. Ofcourse, many of us wrote Malami off, and labeled his statement as arrogant and sad.

The Governor, Willie Obiano and his political party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA is obviously more concerned with campaigns for the forthcoming Anambra Gubernatorial Elections where his candidate, Prof. Charles Soludo is pitched in front to be his successor. This is more important to them than finding a lasting solution to the insecurity situation that has bedeviled Awka and Anambra State in general.

The Anambra State Governor must as a matter of urgency rise to responding to his oat of office, in protecting the lives and properties of Anambrarians. It’s sad that ndi Anambra are killed on a daily basis without any solution. In just one week, there has been more than twenty assassinations in the most gruesome manner all over Anambra and no one has been held accountable.

I commend the Governor on the Anambra International Airport project. I commend him on the almost completed International Conference Center. I commend him also in his giant strides in Education. But I must state herein quite clearly, that in area of security, he has now become a colossal failure. Many of us bystanders and onlookers are startled, if not shocked at that. How can things get this low?

Anambra is trending in the news for two things – insecurity and elections. It’s only unfortunate that the Governor is more concerned about the elections, than the security of precious lives and properties. He should wake up from his deep slumber and do the needful, or alternatively resign office for a more serious-minded individual.

Awka, and indeed Anambra State has become an epicenter of various degrees of crimes and the Government is devastatingly incapacitated.

Tobenna Obiano.
